If you want to continue your membership, we would be glad to hear. Please also read our rules, so you know how it works.
Monday & Wednesday pick from the cupboard & ordering online for Saturday You can look at all of our games and toys in the online catalog. On Monday and Wednesday, you can come by and pick out the games yourself from our shelves. For Saturday, you can order your games and toys online with the form on the catalog page. We will then put out up to 4 toys/games for you, which you can pick up between 10.00 – 11.00 in the hallway of the Speelotheek.
Checking the toys/games On the first day of borrowing a game or toy, check if it is complete and undamaged. This is your responsibility. You can check this with the help of the table of contents in the box, which will tell you what parts need to be in the box. Is something out of order? Let us know immediately! E-mail us at email@example.com on the first day of borrowing to prevent fines later on.
Please return toys clean and complete Cleaning the toys and the boxes is important and mandatory. Is something wrong, broken or missing? Write us a note and put it in the box. After you return the toys, we will check them for cleanliness and missing pieces. If they are not clean or there are pieces missing, you will get a fine that you can pay by card (PIN) in the Speelotheek.
For how long can i lend it?
Of course you can borrow toys for a week and bring them back to borrow something new :) You can borrow toys for a maximum of four weeks. After that you can extend your borrowing period once with four weeks. Just send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Don't forget to mention your personal number and which toys you want to extend. You will get a confirmation email with the new return date. On the receipt that you get when borrowing the toys you can also always find the return date or check the online catalog that also mentions when toys are supposed to be brought back.
Can I Extend my borrowing period?
Of course. You can do this by sending an email to email@example.com. In this email please include your name, your member number and the toys that you would like to borrow for longer. You can extend the borrowing period once by four weeks and will get a confirmation e-mail with the new return date.
Too late, damaged or missing something, what to do?
If you return your toys/games too late we will charge €0.50 per toy per week.
Did you lose or break something? That’s understandable and we won’t get mad. Toys are there to be played with, so this can happen. Put a note in the box telling us about the problem. If there is no note we charge a €0.50 administrative fee. Usually we charge €0.50 for each broken or missing piece. This fee can be higher if the game is unplayable or if the replacement costs for this piece are higher. You can pay your outstanding fee by card (PIN) in the Speelotheek itself. After you have paid you can borrow new toys and games.
For Lego sets that are not taken apart or sorted into the bags, we charge a fine between €2.49 and €3.49. Cleaning the toys and the boxes is important and mandatory. Use dishwater or all-purpose cleaner, and put suitable fabrics in the washing mashine. Voor toys and boxes that are not cleaned there will be a fine of €2.50! We are strict about this, because you would also want clean toys for your kids.
Missing clamps cost €0.50, a missing table of contents is also €0.50, and damaged/broken boxes cost between €1.99 and €6.99. Broken lids cost €1.00 or €1.50.
Checking and fixing toys costs our volunteers a lot of time. Time we would rather spend by adding new toys or organizing cool events. Only together we keep the Speelotheek clean and complete.
How can i order toys?
You can order by using the order form on the catalog page. The first 4 available toys from your list will be ready for you on Saturday between 10 and 11 in the Speelotheek. You only need to come and pick them up.
Expected return date In the online catalog you can see if a toy is currently lent out and when we expect it to be back. Keep in mind that the date doesn’t indicate when the toy will be available again. Often times the toy will be returned on the provided date, and afterwards still needs to be checked. People can also request an extension or hand in their toys too late.
Availability It will be stated in the online catalog whether the toy is available or not. Sometimes the toys are available but another member was faster with ordering them. That’s why we ask for a list of 8 toys, so that we can put out the first 4 available pieces for you. And you avoid disappointment.
Can I Reserve toys?
No, you can’t reserve toys. You can, however, see when the toy you want is expected to be returned. Most times it will be available for rental the following week.
Can i donate toys and games?

Why are you closed during vacations?
Because the Speelotheek is run by volunteers. Many of whom have children at home during the vacations (just like you). So we can’t get our schedules filled during this time. If we get more volunteers, maybe we can be open during vacations in the future. Thus, feel welcomed to join as a volunteer!
Also, taking rest is necessary. Running the Speelotheek is a lot of work. A lot more than it might look from the outside. Our volunteers make it possible for you to borrow toys. So please give these superheroes the appreciation they deserve.
