Checking the toys/games On the first day of borrowing a game or toy, check if it is complete and undamaged. This is your responsibility. You can check this with the help of the table of contents in the box, which will tell you what parts need to be in the box. Is something out of order? Let us know immediately! E-mail us at [email protected] on the first day of borrowing to prevent fines later on.
Please return toys clean and complete Cleaning the toys and the boxes is important and mandatory. Is something wrong, broken or missing? Write us at the yellow note in the box, which you'll find with the table of contents. After you return the toys, we will check them for cleanliness and missing pieces. If they are not clean or there are pieces missing, you will get a message and a fine that you can pay by card (PIN) in the Speelotheek.
For how long can i lend it?
Of course you can borrow toys for a week and bring them back to borrow something new :) You can borrow toys for a maximum of four weeks. After that you can extend your borrowing period once with four weeks. Just login to your account in the catalog.
Can I Extend my borrowing period?
Of course. You can do this by logging in into your personal account in the catalog.
Too late, damaged or missing something, what to do?
If you return your toys/games too late we will charge €0.10 per toy per day.
Did you lose or break something? That’s understandable and we won’t get mad. Toys are there to be played with, so this can happen. Fill in the yellow note in the box telling us about the problem.
If there is no note we charge a €0.50 administrative fee. Usually we charge small fees for each broken or missing piece. This fee can be higher if the game is unplayable or if the replacement costs for this piece are higher. You can pay your outstanding fee by card (PIN) in the Speelotheek itself. After you have paid you can borrow new toys and games. Fines for missing or damaged toys vary, and you will always receive a separate message about these.
Cleaning the toys and the boxes is important and mandatory. Use dishwater or all-purpose cleaner, and put suitable fabrics in the washing machine. Voor toys and boxes that are not cleaned there will be a fine of €2.50! We are strict about this, because you could also want clean toys for your kids.
Checking and fixing toys costs our volunteers a lot of time. Time we would rather spend by adding new toys or organizing cool events. So check carefully and take good care of the borrowed toys. Only together can we keep the Toy Library clean and complete.
How can i order toys?
You can order by using the basket in the catalog. The first 4 available toys from your list will be ready for you on requested date and time in the Speelotheek. You only need to come and pick them up.
Availability It will be stated in the online catalog whether the toy is available or not. Sometimes the toys are available but another member was faster with ordering them. That’s why we ask for a list of 8 toys, so that we can put out the first 4 available pieces for you.

Why are you closed during vacations?
Because the Speelotheek is run by volunteers. Many of whom have children at home during the vacations. So we can’t get our schedules filled during this time. If we get more volunteers, maybe we can be open during vacations in the future. Thus, feel welcomed to join as a volunteer!
Also, taking rest is necessary. Running the Speelotheek is a lot of work. A lot more than it might look from the outside. Our volunteers make it possible for you to borrow toys. So please give these superheroes the appreciation they deserve.
Do you collaborate with companies, organizations and schools?
Absolutely! With pleasure.
Companies: In return for sponsorship, the toy library sometimes lends out board games so companies can organize a fun game night for their employees.
Organizations: For example, the toy library collaborates with Abrona. Clients at the daycare center in Leidsche Rijn volunteer for the toy library Hoograven. They do this by cleaning donated toys every week. That's a lot of work. So they help us enormously, and they have a fun, and above all, meaningful, way to spend their days.
Schools & Childcare: We don't offer memberships to schools and childcare organizations, but we are happy to visit you for information sessions/demonstrations about the toy library.
Would you also like to collaborate with our toy library? Feel free to contact us at [email protected] We are always open to new partnerships and suggestions.
